What Tasks Are Available?

At this time volunteers for Royal Guide Dogs Tasmania participate in the following activities:

  • Administrative/ Fund Raising tasks:
  • Collection Dog /Puppy Bank programs (involves driving)
  • Mail-room administration
  • Puppy Raising and Boarding

Occasionally, there will be opportunities for individuals to become involved in activities that are outside of the regular administrative roles, such as participating in or helping to organise events. Please note that at this time there is no opportunity (aside from applying to become a trained Puppy Raiser/Boarder) for voluntary puppy walking or playing.

Puppy Raising

There are strict criteria for this form of volunteering.

Puppy Raisers are required to live within a 20km radius of Hobart and Launceston CBD.

Collection Dogs

Due to the nature of this program, details of tasks associated with mini dogs are deliberately excluded from page. Details are discussed at interview, however the basic requirements include:

  • Driver’s license
  • Good presentation
  • Reasonable level of health and fitness
  • Reasonable level of initiative and autonomy
  • Ability to work one full day a week or fortnight: 9am-3pm

The Mailroom

The mailroom teams handle all of our incoming, and some of our outgoing mail: opening sorting, redirecting, etc. They also deal with some money, securely and under supervision. The teams ideally comprise of a minimum of two and a maximum of four people, and are a vital part of our operations. Some people volunteer one morning per week, and others more than one.

Some people have been with us for several years now, and obviously enjoy the social contact as well as doing something worthwhile for our charity. Hours are from 9am – 12pm

Please note that all volunteers are required to participate in an application process, which includes completion of a National police check.
